MPSA Mailbag 1/14/2011
What the neighbors are telling us. As always, mailbag items do not necessarily represent MPSA position…
(1/13) My neighbor & I just went through a grueling workout to break up ice on a driveway to get our cars off the street, for the favor of letting us park there since we iced out of our alley right now. I’m gonna be a really unhappy camper if 10th Street looks the same in the morning as it does this evening. I was content to park on street since the side streets are sheer ice rinks right now.
(1/13) Just wanted to report a car break in on 3rd Street. They smashed the passenger side window. Nothing in the car, but we are filing a police report. The scary part is that they did it right outside of our building at 3RD and Myrtle. They usually reserve the window smashing for the area up towards the Chevron.
(1/11) I am sending this email on behalf of myself and other residents of condo association. Our parking lot and sidewalk back up to the Chevron at the corner of Piedmont and Ponce and the Chevron’s cleaning crew consistently blows all of the trash from their part of the sidewalk down to where our parking lot/property begins. There are now 2 tires right in that spot and we can only speculate that the Chevron workers dumped them there. Do you have contact information for the owner or can you otherwise assist us in asking the Chevron to stop? I know that they have been cooperative with the MPSA in the past. Though we see it more than most, it really is a neighborhood issue since they are moving their trash and litter off of private property and onto the public sidewalks. MPSA NOTE: Sgt. Cooper will approach the new owners of the Chevron about this issue.
(12/31) One of the renters next door, the girl who lives in the back of the quadraplex next to my house (upper Myrtle), told me there was an attempted break in of her unit two days ago. She found crowbar marks but evidently the perps were unable to enter. Of note, the fence behind the quadraplex appears to have been kicked in or pried. I may have also mentioned this before, but someone stole the real estate lockbox off my front porch sometime between this past Monday night and midday Tuesday.

"Car Wash Mike" - MPSA field photo
(12/28) We were at Mellow Mushroom for dinner tonight, around 5pm-5:30pm. Car Wash Mike was at Midtown Promenade hassling people including employees. He even went in to Mellow Mushroom and took a beer from an outside table. Then he hassled the Metrofresh woman, people patronizing UPS Store, etc. Security was called, even an APD officer, but CW Mike managed to disappear for a while, then came back later. When we drove home around 9:10pm tonight from Va-Hi, he was pushing his cart across Monroe at the 8th St light, grinning away.
Important Announcements from the City of Atlanta Regarding 2011 Winter (Official Information)

City of Atlanta Official Information
From the Atlanta Police Department: The City of Atlanta is shifting its focus to clean neighborhoods and side streets of the snow/ice left over from the snow storm that came in on Sunday night. We are asking the citizens of Atlanta to IMMEDIATELY remove their vehicle from the city streets (both legally parked/abandoned vehicles) so efforts can be made to clean the snow/ice off the roadway. The equipment being used is heavy equipment; if vehicles are left on the roadway they may become damaged as these trucks are attempting to clean the roadway. Those vehicles that were left abandoned by the owners who could not negotiate the snow/ice may result in the vehicle being towed from the roadway at the owner’s expense.
From the Department of Public Works: Public Works began treating secondary/neighborhood roads on Wednesday 1/12/11. We are working as quickly as possible to get to all neighborhoods. We are asking that ice reports go through our emergency response center. Please ask residents to report ice conditions/emergencies to (404) 853-3200 or (404) 546-2615 or via email to DPWWinter2011@AtlantaGa.Gov.
All solid waste collections are delayed due to hazardous road conditions and limited access to our solid waste transfer stations. We will begin collection of routes as road conditions improve. We will work to ensure completion of citywide collection. Yard trimming collections are delayed until further notice. All route collections are dependent upon weather conditions and accessibility. To report dangerous ice conditions on streets or traffic signal problems, such as outages, please contact (404) 546.2615 or (404) 853.3200. Thank you for your patience as we continue to deliver City services.
