SUSPICIOUS PERSONS ALERT
We have been notified about three young black teenagers going door-to-door collecting money for School of Carver and Toys for Tots. They were last reported yesterday on Myrtle Street and earlier on 8th at Durant.
Toys for Tots explicitly told us that they never send volunteers door-to-door. Only marines with proper ID collect toys for this organization. DO NOT GIVE MONEY TO THESE TEENS, THIS IS A SCAM, CALL 911.
A burglary took place in the 900 block of Myrtle Street on Wednesday afternoon, and some believe that these teenagers may have been involved. The culprits tore a hole in the fence backing up to the alley, and entered the home by way of the back door. These teenagers were loitering around in the immediate area, suspiciously according to area residents, about the time of the incident. If you know anything about these kids please let us know about it…
Sgt. Cooper suggests that you post a “No Solicitors” sign on your property making it unlawful for anyone to come to your door soliciting for anything; see the city ordinance below. Please report suspicious person to 911 immediately.
City Ordinance Section 30-618 Entry Upon Signed Premises Unlawful – It shall be unlawful for any person, while conducting the activities of solicitation pursuant to chapter 30, article VII, whether licensed or unlicensed, to enter upon any residential premises in the city where the owner, occupant or person legally in charge of the premises has posted, at the entry to the premises, or at the entry to the principal building on the premises, a sign bearing the words “No Peddlers,” “No Solicitors,” or words of similar import. (Ord. No. 1997-13, § 4, 3-10-97)
HOLIDAY TRAVEL – In other notes, many of you are traveling for the holidays. Members can send us an e-mail with the subject “vacation notice”, with the following included in the body: Street address, dates of departure and return, emergency contact info, and who should be on the premises during your absences (gardeners, petsitters, etc.). If you have already left town it is certainly not too late.
AJC: Shooting victim found dead in wrecked car
Homicide Update 12/07/2010
1. Local news media have been reporting a homicide a short ways south of Midtown. In a nutshell, police believe that this incident was drug-related, and not a random homicide. Below is a statement from Major Williams:
Good morning, please read the following, as written by a Zone 5 sergeant, pertaining to a homicide at 660 Ralph McGill Boulevard. Also, I have blind copied several of Zone 5′s community leaders so that they can be informed that this was, likely, not a random incident.
On 12-07-10, at 0045 hours, unit 1511 responded to a one car accident at 660 Ralph McGill. Once he arrived on the scene, he observed a black male lying back on the driver’s side unconscious. Officer Moline called for EMS, and once EMS arrived on the scene, they noticed the male had a gun shot wound and was dead on the scene. Homicide investigators came to the scene and took over the investigation. The Homicide supervisor stated that it appeared to be drug-related, [given that] a large amount on money was found on the victim, that the victim did have a criminal history, and had just been released from jail.
Please dial 911 for suspicious activity and please participate and share the Clean Car Campaign’s concept.

Quick Notes & MPSA Mailbag 12/06/2010
1. ‘Tis the season for package thefts! We strongly urge you to have packages shipped to work or another safe location if you are not home during delivery hours. Richard’s Market at Argonne & 6th will hold packages for you (please make arrangements with them beforehand).
2. Many folks took advantage of the vacation check over the Thanksgiving holiday. That is available at any time for dues-paying members, so keep that in mind when leaving town for the holidays. Many of you will be heading out again, so start thinking about stopping mail, newspaper deliveries, etc. and of course let us know when you will be gone. And of course check your doors and windows both upstairs and down before you head out. In fact, we encourage you to to that anyhow…
3. Please keep some lights on at night, especially on the street side of your home. Lights activated by motion detectors are optimal for the side and rear of the home. Street numbers should be easily noticeable from the street – we recommend 4-6 inch letters on a background of contrasting color.
4. Our only mailbag item to share: At 4:30 this morning, a thickly-built (around 230 pounds) black man – about 6′ tall – with short cut hair, walked on the sidewalk from Charles Allen down Vedado Way towards Grady. He was wearing a collarless short-sleeved T-shirt with thick brown and white horizontal stripes. As he walked, he physically checked door handles to see if vehicles were unlocked. MPSA NOTE: We have forwarded this to APD for further assessment. Please call 911 without delay upon seeing someone trying doors!
MPSA Patrol Arrests Pair of Criminals
On Thanksgiving evening our patrol officer made an arrest for us to be thankful for. Officer Gruen was conducting an MPSA routine of inspecting the parking garage of Post Parkside when another pickup truck tried to tailgate him into the garage at the gate. The gate crashed into the truck so Officer Gruen checked out the two guys in the offending vehicle. The truck, along with a motor scooter in the bed, turned out to be stolen.
APD contacted the owner of the stolen motor scooter, which had been stolen in the Piedmont & Lindbergh area. The grateful owner came immediately to the scene of arrest to take it home. The pickup truck, stolen from a Decatur resident, was impounded for safekeeping since the owner could not be reached at that time.
The two subjects, Jeremy Hawkins of Roswell and Christopher Sanders of Locust Grove, were immediately arrested and transported to the Fulton County jail. They were booked each on two counts of Theft by Receiving Stolen Goods and Criminal Trespassing. Neither has a rap sheet at the State Department of Corrections, but will that change soon?
Property Managers and those who live in high rises, please take note of this incident. These criminals came to town to steal motor scooters. People who try to tailgait behind other vehicles to get into a garage are up to no good. Should anyone have this experience, take note of the license number and any other information you can such as make and model of auto and a description of its occupants and call 911 immediately.
