Home Invasion in Midtown
Major Williams shared with us a police report narrative from a home invasion incident in the neighborhood.
APD received a call about a person screaming in the 1000 of Piedmont Avenue, and located the victim upon arrival at the scene. According to the police report, the victim first made contact with the suspect around 10pm by way of an internet service known as Adam & Adam, but went to bed when the suspect did not show. During the 2am hour the suspect repeatedly called the victim from different numbers, and arrived at the victim’s home late in that hour.
The victim let the suspect into his home, but after the suspect left the patio door unlocked, the victim asked him to leave. A little bit later the suspect returned with an accomplice armed with a pistol to force their way into the victim’s home. The pair of criminals tied the victim in a closet. When the victim screamed for help, he was hit in the back of the head with the pistol. The pair took several items from the victim and made off in a gold colored older model Honda.
We would like to add that when meeting people over the Internet, always make the first meeting in person at some public place with other people around (coffee shops are great for those). Never invite strangers from the internet to your home until you have a good feel for that person.
