Short Announcements 8/02/2010

- Sgt. Cooper has been patrolling the service area on his motorcycle during the early morning hours. These extra shifts emphasize the transvestite prostitutes in the southwest portion of our service area, and Ponce & Boulevard. The surprise factor serves as a major strategy during these hours, as the street criminals quickly learn the patrol schedule and patterns.
- We have alot of dark areas in the neighborhood. It would help greatly if folks would leave front porch lights on at night. Home Depot has a good selection of timers, including programmable timers built into light switches.
- September and October are shaping up to be an exciting time to be living in Midtown. The Midtown Festival of the Arts will take place on the weekend of September 25th & 26th. Gay Pride will be held on the weekend of October 9th & 10th, and the Eagles will appear in concert on October 15th. There may be other events too. We have no details on logistical plans at this point, but there will surely be street closures. Pride has always deployed a very good security, traffic, and cleanup plan. We will pass along details as they become available, but for now mark your calendars for an exciting month in Midtown.
- You can follow us with Twitter by sending a text message “follow MidtownPonce” to 40404. In the last week a tree blocked traffic on Monroe – we could alert folks to acute situations like that via SMS (email would not be that practical, since the situation would be over before most recipients have read the blast). Major alerts, of course, will always be sent out via all modes of communication.
- We do not have any mailbag items for this week. Surely somebody is seeing something out there – please tell us about it…
