Safety tip: Run. Hide. Fight

A sniper can strike at any time…

Do you know what to do if you find yourself in the vicinity of a sniper or active shooter? The City of Houston, with a grant from the Department of Homeland Security, put out a very good video on what to do if you ever find yourself in the vicinity of an active shooter. They had originally planned to put it out later in the year, but went ahead and released it in the aftermath of the tragic incident in Aurora a few weeks ago. As with other similar events, those who found themselves in the crossfire of such a horrific situation had no clue what to do next.

The PSA video instructs one to run when feasible, hide if an escape route is not available, and fight as a last resort. It gives critical life-saving tips in such a dire. unpredictable situation, like silencing your cell phone if you have to hide (someone watching the news could try to call you), and what to expect of the initial response by law enforcement (they may not yet have a clear and accurate description of the assailant). As the producers pointed out in a CBS article, it would be well worth the expenses if it saves just one life. This PSA video was very well done, and we highly recommend it.
